With Millwall's match at Wycombe falling foul of the weather Wigan had a chance to leapfrog the London side and move clear at the top of Division Two but a dull and lacklustre display by Bruce Rioch's side saw them slip to third in the table as they could only play out a goalless draw with Wrexham.
Wigan Athletic had their chance to go top of Division Two but instead slipped to third thanks to a lacklustre performance in front of their own expectant crowd.
Wigan manager Bruce Rioch chose to keep faith with the starting line up that beat Luton Town just 48 hours previously with only one change on the bench, former Wrexham keeper Andy Marriott signed on loan from Sunderland as cover for Roy Carroll.
Neither side looked like taking a grip of the game and only a handful of chances were created during the entire game.
Wrexham had a Brian Carey goal ruled out for holding down the keeper and Andy Liddell saw his effort from the edge of the penalty area come off the upright in the second half before he was replaced.
Latics played the last third of the second half practically two men down after using all three substitutes and seeing Stefan Bidstrup and defender Pat McGibbon both pull up limping and had to let them play on, struggling to stay on their feet.
Craig Faulconbridge did look dangerous up front for Wrexham and Frenchman Emad Bouanane in defence ran rings around Wigan's Scott Green down the wing.
