The Wigan squad ended the season with a prestige friendly in Malta to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the inception of the Floriana club.
The Maltese club included Bobby Charlton in their side as a guest player and Latics included Valetta skipper Carlo Seychell as a guest player in their ranks.
The game attracted a decent crowd and Latics took the lead after five minutes courtesy of an own goal. The Maltese side grabbed a leveller late in the first half and then went on to net a winner in the 85th minute.
The Wigan players were treated to some VIP hospitality by the locals and attended a dinner-dance at the Mediterranean Conference Centre that evening, where a pair of Bobby Charlton’s football boots were auctioned off for charity.
