Tony made his Latics League debut as a substitute on 20th October 1979 against Lincoln City at Springfield Park.
The Blues went on to win the game 2-0 and in his next game Tony was to score in a 1-1 draw against Rochdale also at Springfield Park.
He went on to score a further 8 league goals in his next 12 League games and he was hailed at the time as a 'super striker’.
However, his purple patch soon ended and he was released by Latics at the end of the 1980/81 season joining Witton Albion.
He played a total of 36+7 League games for the Blues during which he scored 14 League goals.
He later had spells with Southport (twice) and Mossley before hanging up his boots.
