Paul was signed by Harry McNally in the summer of 1983 from Rochdale.
He made his Latics League debut on the opening day of the 1983/84 season, 27th August 1983, against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.
The game resulted in a 0-0 draw and in his first season with the club he became a very dependable defender and by the end of his first season at the club he had made 29 League appearances and had scored 2 league goals.
After making just 6 more League appearances the following season he was transferred to Wrexham on 22nd November 1984.
He went on play for Burnley, Bolton Wanderers and Chester City before finishing his career in non league circles with Southport, Morecambe and finall Chorley.
Paul tragically passed away at the young age of only 52 on 29th December 2013.
