Dave signed for Latics on a non contract basis from Burnley at the start of the 1994/95 League campaign by Kenny Swain.

He made his Latics League debut on the opening day of the season, 13th August 1994 against Carlisle United at Brunton Park, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat for the Blues.

He played just 7 League games for Latics without scoring before joining Cambridge United on 10th October 1994.

His first game for the U’s was also his last as a professional footballer as he sustained a leg injury that ended his career in a 6-0 defeat against Brentford.

He still wasn’t quite finished with the game and ended his playing days with Formby after stints with three Southern League outfits.
