Drewe arrived on loan from Norwich City on 10th August 1997. He made his Latics League debut 8th September 1997 as a substitute against Wrexham at Springfield Park, a game that resulted in a 3–2 victory for the Blues. Despite being highly rated by Latics manager John Deehan he only made 2+6 League appearances for the Blues without scoring. On 28th October 1998 he was sold by Norwich City to Brentford in a £100,000 deal.
