David, who had been on schoolboy forms with Wrexham and Tranmere Rovers before playing for the University of Manchester, arrived at Springfield Park towards the end of the 1982/83 season from Mossley. He made his Latics League debut on 2nd May 1983 against Bournemouth at Dean Court. The game resulted in a 2-2 draw and playing for the opposition in what turned out to be his last professional game in England was the legendary George Best. He played in the last two games of the season, Huddersfield Town away and Preston North End at Springfield Park.
He was released at the end of the season.
