Gary arrived at Springfield Park from Wrexham on transfer deadline day, when he was swapped for Ian Griffths in March 1991.

He made his Latics League debut on. 23rd March 1991 as a substitute for Andy Pilling against Crewe Alexandra at Springfield Park in a game that resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Blues with Gary supplying the pass from which Jimmy Carberry netted the winner.

In total he made 51+12 League appearances for the Blues, scoring 20 League goals before being released at the end of the 1992/93 season to sign a non contract deal with Exeter City, who proved to be his final Football League club.

He later had spells managing the youth teams of Halifax Town and Huddersfield Town and the youth academy at Leeds United and is currently (January 2013) working behind the scenes with the youth at Manchester City.
