Veteran Ian was brought to the club on a non contract basis to help out his old friend Bryan Hamilton at a time when the club was in the middle of an injury crisis.

He joined the Blues on 28th August 1992 along with Chris Makin who had arrived on loan from Oldham Athletic.

He made his Latics League debut the following day against Swansea City at Springfield Park in a game that resulted on a 2-3 defeat in front of a crowd of just 1,565.

He missed the following home game against Fulham and then made a further 4 consecutive League appearances without scoring before bringing an and to his professional career.

In 1993 he became player-manager at Peterhead, before leaving a year later to join Nagaya Grampus Eight to become former Latics manager, Gordon Milne's, assistant.
