Tommy was brought to Springfield Park by Bryan Hamilton who signed him on loan from Southampton on 10th September 1991. He made his Latics League debut four days later against Hull City at Springfield Park in a game that ended in a 0-1 defeat for Latics. He was a substitute for Bryan Griffiths during that game and he went on to make 5+1 League appearances for the club without scoring, before returning to the Dell.
