Alan arrived at the club on a two-month loan spell from York City in March 1987. However, after making his Latics League debut against Newport County at Somerton Park on 31st March 1987, a game that resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Blues, he was to play just one more League game for Latics. This was the penultimate match of the season against Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park which resulted in Latics earning a 0-0 draw and ensuring that Boro’s Championship winning Champagne was left on ice. He was released at the end of the seasson
