Tony was signed by Bryan Hamilton from Everton for the start of season 1989/90. Henever played a first team game for the Toffees but had played four games on loan to Doncastr Rover whilst at Goodison Park. He made his Latics League debut on 7th October 1989 against Bolton Wanderers at Burnden Park in a game that resulted in a 2-3 defeat for the Blues. He had a poor game and was substituted by Shaun Fallon. He failed to make a name for himself and by the time he was released at the end of the League campaign he had made 8+3 League appearances and scored 2 League goals.
