Paul arrived at Springfield Park from non-league side Marine on 22nd September 1984.
His Latics debut came on 3rd October 1984 when Latics won 1-0 at Reading's Elm Park.
Also making his debut for Latics on that day was Ray Redshaw.
He made 153+2 League appearances and scored 3 League goals before he was surprisingly sold to Third Division rivals Leyton Orient for a £175,000 fee on 20th October 1989, a club record for the O’s.
Paul represented England at Semi-Pro level whilst at the Deva Stadium.
