Bobby, who was originally spotted playing for the Aberdeen Lads Club, was a very popular signing from Hibernian in July 1980.
He was well admired for his competitive style of play.
He made his Latics League debut on the opening day of the 1980/81 season against Hartlepool United at Springfield Park.
The game was played on 16th August and resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Blues.
He was sold to Tranmere Rovers at the end of his only season at Springfield Park during which he played 34+1 League games, scoring 3 League goals in the process.
