Paul arrived at Springfield Park for the start of the 1991/92 season from Preston North End for whom he had played youth football.
He never played a League game for Latics but made his debut for the club on 14th November 1992 in an FA Cup first round game against Carlisle United at Springfield Park, replacing Andy Pilling in a game that resulted in a 3-1 victory for the Blues.
He played 1+2 games in the FA Cup that season and he also appeared in an Autoglass Trophy first round game against Blackpool in which the Blues beat the Seasiders 2-0.
He was released at the end of the League campaign.
